Liner System

A liner system is a type of casing string used in oil and gas wells that does not extend all the way to the surface. Instead, it is anchored or suspended inside a previously installed casing using a liner hanger. This system is essential for deep wells, cost efficiency, and maintaining well integrity.

Key Components

  • Liner: A shorter casing string set below the casing.
  • Liner Hanger: A mechanical device that suspends the liner from the previous casing.
  • Cementing Equipment: Used to secure the liner in place and ensure zonal isolation (float shoe and float collar).

Advantages

  • Cost Savings: Less steel and cement required compared to full-length casing
  • Reduced Surface Load: Lighter casing reduces stress on the wellhead
  • Flexibility: Easier to adapt to changing well conditions
  • Improved Drilling Efficiency: Allows deeper drilling without running full casing
