Well Intervention

Well intervention encompasses a range of operations undertaken on oil or gas wells to maintain, enhance, or restore their productivity. These interventions can vary from routine maintenance to intricate procedures, including tasks such as opening or closing sliding sleeve doors, removing debris, or replacing downhole equipment, such as a Wireline Retrievable Subsurface Safety Valve.

Well Intervention activities can be carried out on these types of wells:

Live Wells

  • Wells that are currently engaged in the active production of hydrocarbons. These wells are designed and operated to extract valuable resources such as oil and natural gas from underground reservoirs. Their continuous production not only contributes to meeting global energy demands but also supports various industries and economies around the world.

Killed Wells

  • These are wells that have been temporarily shut in or are not flowing. Our expertise allows us to safely remove kill fluids, assess well integrity through pressure testing and logging, and implement targeted interventions such as tubing replacement or scale removal, tailored to the well’s specific condition.

Key Objectives

These operations are essential throughout a well’s lifecycle from initial production to late-stage decline or abandonmen to ensure:
      • Optimal performance
      • Operational safety
      • Environmental compliance
      • Extended well longevity

Intervention Types

1. Light Intervention

    • Uses tools like slickline, wireline, or coiled tubing
    • Performed without removing the wellhead
    • Tasks include logging, cleaning, setting plugs, and valve adjustments or replacement.

2. Heavy Intervention

    • Requires removal of the wellhead and pressure barriers
    • Involves workover rigs or snubbing units
    • Used for major repairs, recompletions, or equipment replacement

Common Techniques and Purposes

Coiled Tubing

Cleanouts, acid stimulation, fluid injection

Wireline (E-line)

Logging, perforation, setting / removing tools

Hydraulic Workover

Tubing replacement, recompletion

Fishing

Retrieval of stuck or lost equipment
